A great day at Builth Wells. Arguably less a cyclo-cross course and more an MTB course, there were no complaints from me; you can’t beat a technical grind through Mid-Welsh countryside.
My club (Cardiff JIF) had a particularly successful day with Gold in the U16 girls (Elizabeth Bennett), Gold in the U16 boys (Tom Nesham), Gold in the ladies (Mel Alexander) and Silver in the Senior men (Adam King) and Vets (Matt Beckett). The senior race was won by Gateway rider Lee Williams in a brutal display of machine-like riding for his 9th successive title.
For me, the proudest moment came in the U8s race. The JIFkids blasted around the course with smiles a mile wide. Tom’s sister Anwen won gold whilst my little girl took bronze. As ever, young Charlie Beckett wore the best race face of the day across any category, taking an excellent 5th place in the same race. The Saturday afternoons spent negotiating training cones are certainly paying off.

Middle image: Donald Gray and Craig Standage battle on the same section. A nasty crash a short while later forced Donald to retire from the race (and thankfully, his injuries have proved not to be major).
Bottom image: What a picture; Anwen and Evelyn on the podium.
