Slightly belated, but huge congratulations to Becky James for her performances at the World track championships. 4 medals in total: Gold in the sprint and keirin, bronze in the team sprint and 500m time trial. It’s the first time a track athlete has won 4 medals at a single World championships and a fantastic performance of maturity from an athlete only 21 years old. The medals are testimony not only to Becky’s impressive abilities, but also to the cycling set-up in South Wales. With hard working clubs – Becky hails from Abergavenny, rich with cycling heritage – , good cycling geography (mountains, rolling hills, flats and trail centres) and crucially, a world class velodrome, its a great place for young cyclists to develop.
