The unicyclist

Unicycle art on etsy

She can’t have been more than 14 or 15. Perched on her unicycle and pottering along Davis Road, arms as wings stabilising movement. She was not slow. Her legs span circles whilst weight nudged direction. She stopped at kerbs (naturally), but hopped straight back on and meandered in the rough direction of town. I could match the number of gears but outnumbered her for wheels. Passing her I smiled. “Well done” I said. She beamed. Proudly. Confidently. I cycled on.

In a world of ipads, smartphones, Nintendos and playstations, it’s not every day you see a teenager on a unicycle. Bravo young lady. Cycle art by Andrea Folsom.
