Avoir l’apprenti dans le soleil

Thanks to a comment on a previous blog post (‘The mental soundtrack Part 1: Misery’), the original inspiration for the neon artwork has been identified. ‘Avoir l’apprenti dans le soleil’ (To have the apprentice in the sun) is a 1912 work by Marcel Duchamp a French surrealist painter. In its elegant, doodled simplicity The original is even more beautiful than its illuminated equivalent. Quite a co-incidence that the artwork was sketched on sheet music paper, No?
