Olympic horizon

The Olympics are but a hop, skip and a jump away. Whilst the focus may fall largely on the capital, many of the events spill out into the provinces. Wales will be hosting the very first event;  the GB ladies football team take on the Kiwi’s at the Millenium stadium in my home city of Cardiff. I was quite surprised when cycling home yesterday evening to spot the Olympic rings mounted outside city hall. With local boy and former club-mate Geraint Thomas, being one of our best medal contenders ( the Sky rider having already won a men’s pursuit gold at Beijing) and Nicole Cooke also looking to defend her title, Welsh cyclists will be taking a special interest in proceedings.

I took these pictures after a rapid double take. I wasn’t expecting to see the civic centre embraced by giant Olympic rings. Very nice they are too. Incidentally, the silhouette is mine and the image was taken at the same time. With unusually long legs courtesy of the dwindling April sun, I look like Mr Wall from ‘Dark City’. The picture was nervously taken with my back to my unsecured bike.
