Power to the Pedal!

Caroline Dallimore is a very good friend of ours. She mountain bikes (well). She runs up mountains (very well). She orienteers (very, very well) and she also volunteers at stacks of community endeavours from local races to local charities. Every now and again she very quietly reminds me about the excellent pedal-power in Cardiff, and rightly so. Pedal Power is one of the few organisations actively working to promote access to cycling in the Cardiff area. Rather than reading me drone on about an organisation I don’t know nearly half as well as Caroline, I asked her if she’d be prepared to put finger to keyboard….and she was.

Did you know that Pedal Power in Cardiff is one of the best accessible cycling centres in the UK? It operates from two centres, one in Pontcanna fields and the other in Cardiff Bay.One of the main aims of Pedal Power is to promote cycling as a leisure activity and sport for all and to encourage enjoyment of the environment.

The base in Pontcanna has an extensive range of specially adapted cycles designed for adults and children. This enables virtually anybody to enjoy cycling regardless of age or ability. There is also a cycle hire service that is open to the public 7 days a week with accessories such as baby seats, buggies and tag along bikes also for hire.

Like all charities Pedal Power ( Reg No 1092304) relies on grants, donations, fund raising and income from cycle hire and Spokes Café. You can support Pedal Power by:

  • Donating any unwanted bikes or spares for recycling
  • Publicising Pedal Power in your workplace, pub or social club
  • Using our cycle maintenance services
  • By dropping in to Spokes Café
  • Getting your firm to sponsor a bike
  • Getting your friends and family to hire Pedal Power bikes
  • Volunteering

Many thanks to Caroline for this and best of luck to Pedal power for a successful 2012. If you have community cycling endeavours that you wish to promote, drop me an e-mail at cyclestuffblog@gmail.com . More people on bikes = nicer world to live in.
