The Huffy radio bike
During some internet meanderings I recently chanced across this image. What a beautiful object. It scream’s 50s Americana at you; Buicks, B-movies and red-chequered leather seats at road-side diners. I bet their young owners were envied.
A bike with curved tubes, colourful ‘fenders’ AND a digital radio. Wow. It’s the Huffy radio bike.
If you’re interested in the history of this item, here is a lovely blog-post from oldbike.eu.

There was no such thing as digital radio in the 1950′s. It’s got a tube radio, meaning it uses thermoinic radio tubes in the radio circuit. You could have written “curved tubes … and glass tubes” in the radio.
Absolutely right. Thanks for pointing out the typo (that’s speed typing for you). I rather love DAB and have it on the brain (courtesy of radio 6, world service and occasionally jazz fm). Beautiful bike though, nonetheless.
