Monica’s got company.

To complete image, simply add Daniel, put a content young lady in the front and add a waterproof cover.

Riding back from work on Thursday I bumped into Daniel, a very nice Canadian chap (via Cambridge) who was riding his young daughter home on his Bakfiet. They are not an everyday sight, so I complimented him on his fine choice of steed and he complimented me on mine (my Birdy). We stopped and had a quick chat about the utility of cargo bikes, doing the weekly shop and the slightly fussy fold technique of the Birdy. I simply love this part of being a cyclist and thoroughbred bike nerd; you meet and chat to nice people who you’d never encounter if you were riding their tailgate in a traffic jam (and you talk about stuff that I wouldn’t normally dream of discussing – shopping? I’m a rufty tufty off-roader for heaven’s sake :) ). It was getting dark and the camera was at the base of an overstuffed rucksack so I didn’t get a snap, but the bike is similar to the one featured. One of the amusing things about this encounter is that Richard had heard that somewhere in Cardiff another bakfeit is in use. I had been told exactly the same story by Monica and Ian, the owners of that other bakfiet. One day their paths will surely cross.
