Recycled stamps

Please tell me that I’m not the only one who finds this stamp aesthetically pleasing. Friends of mine are well aware of my soft spot for Soviet era artwork. The fatally flawed political system that put the first man in space, prioritised centralisation, built huge drab buildings and gave me nightmares as a teenager (I was convinced that the movie ‘Red Heat was a plausible if not inevitable scenario), somehow

They know how to do it on the continent.

also managed to produce the most striking art. The image above is from a stamp produced in the heady days of Sputnik and quiet beeps from orbit. By contrast, we Westerners were also hard at it, as these lovely Luxembourg cyclo-cross stamps testify. We know what happened to the wall, Ukrainian submarine yards and huge arsenals of ICBMs, but who won the battle of the brush? As ever, answers on a postcard please.

If you have nice images of bikes, we can almost certainly guarantee some blog space on a Friday afternoon :) . Enjoy your weekend’s riding.
