Freedom of the city
I chanced upon this item recently, whilst looking for something completely unrelated: The City freedom trailer. I’ve always felt that a trailer is a sterling idea, affording the opportunity to lug heavy loads from the supermarket (or the farmers market if you’re lucky enough to have one). So far I’ve yet to invest as (a) They are expensive, (b) They are often more expensive than I anticipated in (a) and (c) They are so expensive that if I didn’t use it very regularly I would get it justifiably in the neck.
This particular trailer caught my eye as the media shot pairs it up with a Birdy, and I’d previously ruled out the notion of twinning a trailer with a folder (not sure why, as Mike – Odoni’s chief engineer – will happily testify, I’m no Izambard Kingdom Brunel). It also folds up into a 5kg
package and can be carted around as a little frame or used as a suitcase and wheeled away (there is a range of compatible bags). There’s something about its Airfix like appearance that I find wildly appealing. This seems to me to be a very neat solution to one of the problems of using a trailer in the city: Just what do you do with the trailer when you lock up your bike?
The cost of this particular model costs around £400 (with accompanying bag) from Velorution . Now to work on that excuse for having one…..
